Writing @CSU (Colorado State University)

Check out this site at Colorado State. It features more than 35,000 pages of resources supporting writers and writing teachers and provides access to the Writing Studio, an open-access instructional writing environment that includes writing tools, research tools, and a course management system for writing classes. Of note in this new release are redesigned blog, wiki, and ePortfolio tools.

Since the Writing Studio was launched in 2004, writers from more than 1500 schools have created accounts on the site and courses have been created by instructors at more than 200 schools. Instructors who wish to create courses on the site should create an account and then send a message to Mike Palmquist (Associate Vice Provost for Learning and Teaching and Director, Institute for Learning and Teaching, Mike.Palmquist@ColoState.edu) asking to have their accounts upgraded.

(I initially had mis-givings about doing the WPE, but eventually decided to because they will all have to take it, and they might as well have an introduction.) I stressed timed writing skills, reminded them about the pre-writing that is important for that sort of thing, and showed them a few templates. (I know--templates. But the WPE is what it is.)

Next week we are having conferences. Because… Continue
